Tooling — calculators, cost management, budgets

Each cloud ships three surfaces that matter for a Chiron recipe: a calculator (estimate before you spend), a cost-management dashboard (see what you're spending), and a budgets API (alert or hard-stop when you overshoot).

Links are the canonical entry points; each one carries the live prices Chiron intentionally does not.

Azure

Calculator — azure.microsoft.com/en-us/pricing/calculator. Add the Azure OpenAI service, pick your model + region, enter estimated token volume; the calculator carries the current unit rate. Export an itemized quote as PDF or Excel.

Cost dashboard — Microsoft Cost Management + Billing surfaces per-service actual spend inside the Azure Portal (also reachable as learn.microsoft.com/…/cost-management-billing/costs). Filter by resource group (module.baseline.resource_group_name from any Chiron Terraform module) to isolate a single recipe's spend.

Budgets — see learn.microsoft.com/…/cost-management-billing/costs/tutorial-acm-create-budgets. Terraform resource: azurerm_consumption_budget_resource_group.

resource "azurerm_consumption_budget_resource_group" "chiron" {
  name              = "chiron-monthly"
  resource_group_id = module.baseline.resource_group_id
  amount            = var.monthly_usd_budget
  time_grain        = "Monthly"
  time_period {
    start_date = "2026-09-01T00:00:00Z"
  }
  notification {
    enabled       = true
    threshold     = 80
    operator      = "GreaterThan"
    threshold_type = "Actual"
    contact_emails = var.alert_emails
  }
}

GCP

Calculator — cloud.google.com/products/calculator. Vertex AI is under "AI and Machine Learning"; add Gemini, Imagen, Veo, Vector Search rows. Save the estimate as a shareable link.

Cost dashboard — Cloud Billing → Reports. Group by Service to see Vertex AI vs Cloud Run vs Cloud SQL side by side; group by Label if you tag resources per recipe.

Budgets — cloud.google.com/billing/docs/how-to/budgets. Terraform: google_billing_budget.

resource "google_billing_budget" "chiron" {
  billing_account = var.billing_account_id
  display_name    = "chiron-monthly"

  amount {
    specified_amount {
      currency_code = "USD"
      units         = tostring(var.monthly_usd_budget)
    }
  }

  budget_filter {
    projects = ["projects/${var.project_id}"]
  }

  threshold_rules { threshold_percent = 0.5 }
  threshold_rules { threshold_percent = 0.9 }
  threshold_rules { threshold_percent = 1.0 }
}

AWS

Calculator — calculator.aws. Add Bedrock (on-demand invocations for each modality), Nova Reel (per video-second), Nova Canvas (per image), plus S3 / RDS / EKS / App Runner as needed. Save + share a link.

Cost dashboard — AWS Cost Explorer (docs.aws.amazon.com/awsaccountbilling/latest/aboutv2/ce-what-is.html). Filter by Service (Bedrock, Polly, Transcribe), then by Tag if resources carry a Recipe=voice etc.

Budgets — docs.aws.amazon.com/awsaccountbilling/latest/aboutv2/budgets-managing-costs.html. Terraform: aws_budgets_budget.

resource "aws_budgets_budget" "chiron" {
  name              = "chiron-monthly"
  budget_type       = "COST"
  limit_unit        = "USD"
  limit_amount      = tostring(var.monthly_usd_budget)
  time_unit         = "MONTHLY"

  notification {
    comparison_operator        = "GREATER_THAN"
    threshold                  = 80
    threshold_type             = "PERCENTAGE"
    notification_type          = "ACTUAL"
    subscriber_email_addresses = var.alert_emails
  }
}

Rate-of-change signal

Every cloud's dashboards emit a daily / hourly delta. When you're first running a new recipe, treat the first 48 hours as the pricing shakeout — token counts always exceed what the calculator quoted, because prompts grow. Refresh the calculator with the actual measured units and iterate.
